The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad (1882) steam train chugs along a narrow-gauge track, spaced at 0.91m/2.9ft, unlike the regular 1,42m/4.6ft ones. The railway crosses 188km/116mi of truly spectacular canyons, fast-flowing mountain streams, and wooded hillside until it reaches the small mining town of Silverton, where a 2hr15 excursion is scheduled before the return trip. Pricey, but worth it for young and old alike.
