It's easy to forget how close Montpellier is to the sea. The beaches are only about 10km from the city centre and easily accessible by bus, tram or bicycle, much to the delight of the locals, who flock to the coast in fine weather. There are also the many private beaches where you can have a drink or dinner in the evening.
